Andrew's IEP meeting

This afternoon I had Andrew's annual IEP meeting. Thankfully Dan got off work in just the knick of time and met me at April's school so I could hand the little ones off to him and head to the meeting!!

Basically, everyone loves Andrew, he's a great kid! He's made a lot of progress in the last two years. His speech therapist (ST) said that he didn't really complete the goals she had set for him last year. She said that she had originally thought that he was having trouble communicating because of the social aspect, but what she learned, through e-mailing with him, was that it is more related to his language comprehension. So, her goals this year revolve around comprehension. His OT is going to comtinue working on helping him function ingroups. His goal last year was primarily to increase his typing speed and now he's up to 17+ WPM! His teacher also gave me his progress report (in place of her parent/teacher conference). He is doing just as we would expect. He is working and trying really hard and it shows!

When I got home from the IEP meeting Dan was talking to his Army counselor. The Army has offered him a 2 year mobilization deferement, which means he is GUARENTEED not to deploy over the next 24 months! His Army time is up Jan 2010 (14 months) so that means the rest of his obligated time is 100% deployment free! What a relief! In return he will go to Denver two days a month (paid) and play with.....er, instruct other soliders in the maintanence and use of small arms weapons. He will also have one 2 week trip, probably to Calfornia (that the Army will pay for) to do more of the same. It'll be a couple of weeks before we hear more about when these things will take place....He is SO excited! He can't wait to get his hands on the weapons. *sigh* Boys and their toys!
